VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
with Washington County Democrats
Call the office at 503-626-7018 if you are interested in any of these activities
DATA MANAGEMENT: We currently need people to help update our volunteer data base. A voter data base is used to add and confirm information. When needed, we also call people. This work is usually done in the office.
EVENT PLANNING: The WCDCC holds events throughout the year to support our work through fundraising, community outreach, and education. Volunteers help plan and staff these crucial events, such as the Spring Fest Italia, our annual summer picnic and the Neuberger Banquet.
COMMUNITY EVENTS: We staff booths at the County and State Fairs, farmers’ market and local festivals. We also participate in various parades and other community events to raise our visibility, recruit volunteers and promote our agenda.
OFFICE: We need people to staff the office and keep it open more hours. Volunteers answer phones and greet visitors, among other activities. The office is not always busy, but our presence is always important.
MAILINGS: Our Grassroots Newsletter is mailed out quarterly, and we mail postcards once a month as a reminder of our Central Committee Meeting.
PHONES: You can call from our office or call from your home. Currently, we need help calling all Democrats to remind them about our upcoming fund raiser. Also, we are calling our Volunteer Data Base to update their information.
WRITING: Advocate for Democratic issues by writing a letter to the editor or contributing an article to our existing newsletters. You could also help to write volunteer job descriptions, position papers or resolutions.
TEACH A CLASS: Join our “Blue School” and teach people how to write a letter to the editor or their legislator, or help teach citizen education.
VIDEOGRAPHER: We are looking for someone to tape our Central Committee meetings for broadcast on cable TV. Tualatin Valley TV provides equipment and training. Also, we want someone to tape events such as town hall meetings to help showcase our legislators and promote greater participation.
COMMITTEES: We have a number of standing committees that could use your help. They include Organization, Communications and Publicity, Finance, Resolutions and Platform, Rules, Young Democrats, Information Technology, and Latino Outreach. There are also ad-hoc committees, such as Faith Initiative, that discuss and organize around issues of interest or concerns.
PRECINCT COMMITTEE PERSON (PCP): This is one of our most important volunteer positions, and an elected or appointed public office. Work in your own neighborhood to educate people about the Democratic Party.
DONATE: Funds raised by the WCDCC are used for operating expenses and to support our candidates. You can help by writing us a check or contribute supplies for our office. We need items for auctions at our fundraisers. Or better yet, join our Blue Horizon Fund. Ask us how you can help maintain our office by making a regular monthly donation for as little as $10 or as much as you can afford. Click here to donate now.
