Washington County Democrats to Hear A Statewide Candidate, a Union Official and a GLBT Rep.

A candidate for Oregon secretary of state, a union official and a representative of the GLBT community will speak at the Washington County Democratic Party Central Committee meeting Feb. 27 at the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue facility, 20665 SW Blanton, Aloha. Social time is at 6:30 p.m. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Sen. Brad Avakian (District 17), the secretary of state candidate, currently is assistant majority leader and serves as chair of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Earlier, he served two terms in the Oregon House. The union official is Phyllis Wills, an officer with a sublocal of SEIU Local 503 and a member of their CAPE (Citizen Action-Public Education) organization. She is based in the Portland Metro area. The GLBT representative is Laura Calvo, treasurer of the GLBT Caucus of the Democratic Party of Oregon and an executive committee member of that caucus.
