Washco Dems Rock!
Thursday 07-26-2007 4:35pm PT
I was pleased to appear at the Washington County Democratic Party meeting in Aloha last night.  There were plenty of laughs and partisan passion!  It was great to see a living democracy – the grassroots effort of so many dedicated Oregonians.
Steve Novick also wowed the crowd.  He’s a top-notch campaigner who is more than ready to take on Gordon Smith in 2008.  You can learn more about him @ novickforsenate.com.
Thanks, Washco Dems!

Volunteer Needs

Wanted:  Good People Who Like to Have Fun
The Events Committee will  start meeting in September to begin planning the Neuberger Banquet, our last event of the year and traditionally, the largest and most important fundraiser.   This year it will be held on November 10 at the Tualatin Country Club.  We are priviledged to have Former Governor Barbara Roberts as our Keynote Speaker.  The event will also feature both a silent and live auction.
Please contact Finance Chair Karen Packer at karen.packer@gmail.com if you want to join in the fun of planning the Maurine Neuberger Banquet. She can also be reached at 503-628-3820.

Office Staffing Coordinator: With the election coming up soon, we need a person to manage the office staffing assignments. We have a short list of trained volunteers who will staff the office but we need to expand this list to include more people with additional information such as the available days and times and the level of training. Also, we have a list of over 100 people to call regarding future office work as well as new people volunteering each month. The tasks will be to create a high quality list of those available to work a few hours each month and a list of substitutes, contact people to staff the office, to create a master schedule of office staffing and ensure people know their assignment. Recruitment, training and orientation will be the responsibility of others. This task will take about 5 hours per month and can be done in the evenings and on weekends. One meeting per month with the ad-hoc office committee is highly recommended. Contact Steve Packer: vicechair@washcodems.org

Office Staff: The purpose of our office is to raise the visibility of the party in Washington County and to create a sense of community with the membership.  Both these are intangible goals and cannot be directly related to the office hours but the result is real and we are growing in numbers and impact.   In anticipation of the upcoming elections, we are considering a change in our office hours and will need more people who are willing to be at the office to keep it open.   We’d want 2 ½ hour commitments.  Orientation and training will be provided.  Contact:  office@washcodems.org   Photo Editor:  We have several people photographing Democratic events and we need a volunteer to publish some of the really good photos on our web site.   The task will be to select, crop, edit and size photos for display on a website.  In addition, a short caption for the photo will be written and the photo published.  Training will be provided for publishing photos on the website.   This task will take about 5 hours per month and can be done in the evenings and on weekends.   Most of the work will immediately follow a major event.  Contact Steve Packer:  vicechair@washcodems.org   Content Publisher: We have a number of people who are creating content that would be interesting to our membership.  Unfortunately, the process of formatting content and publishing it on the website is barrier to getting valuable and important information available to our members.   We need a volunteer to collect content, format this content for the web, and publish the content in appropriate places.   Skills needed are not much more that one would need to create an attractive MS Word document.  Training will be provided. Contact Steve Packer:  vicechair@washcodems.org
