WashCo Dems Update

Democrats Win Big!

Thanks to all our candidates and volunteers. This has been a great year for us. We have reelected our governor, and regained the state house which has been in republicans hands for the last 16 years. Our own David Edwards picked up one of the critical seats that had been in republican hands, we won the other open seats and successfully defended the hard won seats from 2004. Thanks also to our candidates that did not win, but who brought the democratic message of hope and opportunity for all to all areas of our state. To review the Washington county results, go to: http://www.co.washington.or.us/deptmts/at/election/results/nov06.htm

Our candidates could not have been successful without the volunteers that canvassed, phoned, and did all the other jobs needed to win. You are making Oregon a better place for all of us to live.

Our office has been an investment which has really paid off. It hosted the Battleground Blue effort where over 300 volunteers have completed more than 15,000 calls to registered voters in Washington County.  These calls include voter identification calls to find support for our candidates and get-out-the-vote calls (GOTV) to ensure identified supporters and Democrats mail in their ballots. It also serves as a meeting point for canvassing and training. Thanks to everyone who has helped run the office and worked from it.

We defeated conservative ballot measures which would have crippled state spending on education, public safety, and social services. School bond measures passed in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Sherwood, and Portland. Library and Fire measures also passed.

Nationally, democrats took control of the US House and Senate, and we now have the majority of governors. The people's congress has been restored and it will no longer be a rubber stamp for Bush. Congress can now play its role of accountability and oversite, the era of conservative corruption has ended.
