Washington County Democrats to Host Nominating Convention
Washington County Democrats will host the Nominating Convention to replace former State Sen. Brad Avakian on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 10 a.m. The convention will be held in Building 7, Room 121 at Portland Community College, Rock Creek campus, at 17705 NW Springville Road, off 185th and north of Highway 26.
Avakian recently was appointed commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries by Gov. Ted Kulongoski, taking office April 8. He had represented Senate District 17, which includes areas of Bethany, North Beaverton and a part of Northwest Portland.
Democratic Precinct Committee Persons (PCP’s) from Senate District 17 are eligible to vote to recommend nominees to replace Avakian. The final selection comes from the Washington County and Multnomah County Boards of Commissioners. Whoever is selected will face an election in November. All Democratic PCP’s from District 17 should attend the convention. ###
