My name is Dwight Holton, and I wanted to take a quick minute to introduce myself and my new campaign for Attorney General. I am in my first week of campaigning, and I wanted to reach out to you and the rest of your Democratic Party county chairs because I strongly believe in the work you're doing to build the party all around the state.  I’ll work hard to be a good partner in your efforts, and I want to do everything I can to visit with your activists, win their support and engage them in my efforts to make communities throughout Oregon safer and stronger.
Let me tell you a little about myself.  I have spent my whole life in public service.  I just finished a 15 year career working as a federal prosecutor with the US Department of Justice – and for the last few years, I served as Oregon’s United States Attorney.  As United States Attorney, I made it my mission to carry our work to every corner of the state -- I wanted to make sure our office served all of Oregon, not just the Willamette Valley -- and I think if you ask the teachers, sheriffs, district attorneys, drug treatment experts, non-profit leaders and legal activists I worked with throughout the state, you'd find that they consider me a good friend and partner, eager to spend time in communities throughout the state - wherever there was work to be done.
I also grew up in a family of political activists and have spent my life working for Democrats – from hauling lawn signs around Iowa and New Hampshire for presidential candidates to canvassing for Democrats right here in Multnomah County.  My wife Mary Ellen and I met at the Democratic National Convention in 1992, in fact – where we both working for Bill Clinton.  And I’ve always worked closely with my brother-in-law Tim Kaine, who recently resigned as national chairman of the DNC to run for U.S. Senate in Virginia.
We moved here about ten years ago because we fell in love with Oregon – and we’re now raising our kids (Oregon born!) in a great community in inner Southeast Portland, where one of the highlights of the day is dropping our kids off at public school and seeing friends from the neighborhood.
I'm emailing because I wanted to introduce myself and hopefully get a chance to speak to your county party.  I will try to get everywhere if I can.   And I wanted to thank you for your devotion to building the party.  Tim always said, in his travels as DNC chair, that there was nothing more humbling than the devotion, hard work and effectiveness of county chairs he met.  I feel exactly the same way.
Thanks for your time, thanks for all you do for the party, and I look forward to meeting you soon on the campaign trail.
Dwight
PS - my campaign manager Ben Unger reports that Washington County is where it's at - best county party in the state.  I hope to come out very soon.
